Sowing / planting time V - VI
Nepalese cucumber, Armenian cucumber - an annual, fast-growing plant up to 2 m tall. Grown both as a vegetable and for decorative purposes due to its interesting appearance. The yellow flowers are quite large, the leaves are similar to ordinary cucumbers, but larger. The fruit is up to 25 cm long, up to 6 cm in diameter, the skin has a light brown reticulated pattern and the flesh has a melon aroma. The new fruit can be eaten fresh, boiled or salted, but the ripe can be used in decorative compositions. The seedlings are grown similarly to cucumber seedlings. It is advisable to keep the seeds in a growth-promoting liquid (eg Vitamin, Germin) before sowing. Sown in the open from mid-May to mid-June. Growing distance 15 x 80 - 120 cm. Grown in a sunny place, in nutrient-rich, slightly acidic soil. Can be grown horizontally and vertically. Fruits with a diameter of ~ 2.5 cm and a maximum length are the most suitable for harvesting. Later, the fruit becomes drier and loses its taste properties. The seedlings are exhibited 20 - 25 days after germination. Plants must be supported. Nepalese melon needs warmth, well-drained soil and sun. Melons are very demanding - during growth they should be regularly fertilized and watered with warm water. Popular in Southern Europe and Asia.
